Sustainability at Tropic

Sustainability is at the core of our mission and embedded in our DNA. It shapes how we operate and the impact we aim to deliver. Through our innovations, we create positive outcomes for the people who need it the most and in the places that need it the most.

  • CLIMATE RESILIENT CROPS

Developing science-driven traits that strengthen crop resilience and support more reliable harvests.

  • LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Working with nature to reduce inputs, minimise losses, and improve the efficiency of agricultural systems.

  • STRONGER FARMER LIVELIHOODS

Supporting farmers to adapt to climate change, increase yields, and build more resilient supply chains.

Creating positive outcomes

What this means in practice:

  • CLIMATE RESILIENT CROPS

Developing science-driven traits that strengthen crop resilience and support more reliable harvests.

  • LOWER ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

Working with nature to reduce inputs, minimise losses, and improve the efficiency of agricultural systems.

  • STRONGER FARMER LIVELIHOODS

Supporting farmers to adapt to climate change, increase yields, and build more resilient supply chains.

  • ESG-LED APPROACH

Our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy provides the framework to deliver this ambition and scale our impact as we grow.

  • FOCUSED ON WHAT MATTERS

Priorities informed by materiality assessments and aligned with our business and stakeholders.

  • MEASURABLE PROGRESS

Clear goals, defined metrics, and ongoing tracking to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

Turning commitment into action

OUR PILLARS

Our impact-led approach is structured around three core pillars, guiding how our traits enable the environmental and social impact we aim to deliver.

PILLAR 1
Resilient and productive crops

We develop crop traits that improve resilience and productivity in agricultural systems facing increasing pressure from climate change, disease and resource constraints. By enhancing performance, reducing vulnerability to stress, and improving yield consistency, our innovations help farmers produce more reliable harvests.

This pillar reflects the core contribution of our science: supporting crops that can withstand disruption while maintaining or improving output. In doing so, we aim to reduce losses across the value chain, improve production efficiency, and contribute to more stable and resilient agricultural systems over time.

PILLAR 2
Reduced environmental footprint

We aim to reduce the environmental footprint of agriculture by developing crop traits that enable more efficient use of land, water and inputs. By supporting crops that require fewer resources, experience fewer losses, or reduce reliance on crop protection and other inputs, our innovations can improve environmental performance across the value chain.

This pillar focuses on the role of genetics in making agriculture more resource-efficient and lower impact. Potential benefits include reduced emissions, lower input intensity, less pressure on land and water, and reduced waste. As we build evidence through life cycle assessments and modelling, this pillar provides the basis for quantifying these impacts.

PILLAR 3
Stronger livelihoods and food systems

We contribute to stronger livelihoods and more resilient food systems by improving farmer outcomes, supporting stable supply chains, and helping sustain production under environmental and economic pressures. Our innovations are designed to reduce risk, improve reliability, and strengthen the long-term viability of agricultural production.

This pillar captures the broader human and systemic impact of our work. By supporting more consistent yields and reducing losses, our innovations can contribute to improved livelihoods, greater food availability, and more resilient food systems. It also reflects our commitment to responsible innovation - ensuring benefits are relevant, inclusive, and aligned with wider societal needs.

MEASUREMENT
How we measure our impact

We take a data‑driven approach to measuring our impact across both our products and operations. We model the environmental impact of our traits using Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) conducted as primary data from field trials and supply chains become available. Alongside this, we measure and track our organisational carbon footprint across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 using Greenly.

Together, these approaches provide evidence‑based insights that underpin our core impact pillars: resilient and productive crops, reduced environmental footprint, and stronger livelihoods and food systems.
